Hibs and Hearts in social media tit-for-tat after Easter Road jibe

The absence of a regular Edinburgh Derby this coming season will be sorely felt among Hibs and Hearts fans this coming campaign.

Although they wouldn't initially have been able to attend matches had the Jambos stayed up, punters across the capital city will have little to brag about over the 2020/21 season, besides the Scottish Cup semi-final due to be played on either October 31 or November 1.

So step forward the Twitter admins of both clubs who have given their all to keep the rivalry going.

Hibs are set to host Kilmarnock at Easter Road on Saturday in the opening weekend of the Scottish Premiership season.

Keen to give their fans a peek of what their Leith home will look like without supporters, the Hibees posted a picture of one of their stands, now adorned with flags, banners and cardboard cut-outs.

But with their counterparts across the city out of action in the Championship until October, they opted to give their rivals a ribbing using some clever wordplay, scoring out the word 'Hearts' and replacing it with 'Hibs'.

Not to be outdone, the Gorgie club fired back with a GIF of Aaron Hickey's derby winner back in September last year.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder, as they say.
