Hibs 4 Celtic 2 as Hoops crumble at Easter Road - 3 key talking points from Edinburgh

Celtic collapsed at the feet of Hibs in a shock 4-2 loss at Easter Road on Wednesday evening.

The Hoops entered this one on the back of two games without a win, having lost 3-0 to Rangers at Ibrox before stumbling to a 2-2 draw with St Mirren at Celtic Park over the weekend. Spirits were still high, but the Hoops came out struggling when Elie Youan had a few chances to put the hosts ahead, though he failed to capitalise.

Celtic woke up somewhat, with Liel Abada missing an absolute sitter to put them 1-0 up. Their dominance paid off; Callum McGregor was fouled in the box just before the break, and with Reo Hatate tucking away the penalty calmly to give the Hoops the lead, the finishing line was in sight.

Scott Bain stood strong, denying Kevin Nisbet of an equaliser early in the first-half - but there was nothing he could do about Elie Youan's equaliser, with the Frenchman unleashing a thunderous volley that left him stranded.

However, the mood was turned around almost instantaneously when Oh stabbed home from six yards, despite a lengthy VAR review, and the Hoops looked to see the game out from there - but Daizen Maeda's red card changed everything.

Kevin Nisbet scored from the spot just ten minutes later, and with the bit between their teeth, Hibs took the lead through a Scott Bain howler. The Scot had come in for Joe Hart, and when Paul Hanlon nodded past him towards the end, it signalled game over and no wins in three.

Glasgow Live takes a look at 3 key talking points from Easter Road.

Kobayashi shaky

Yuki Kobayashi was underwhelming in the 3-0 derby loss at Ibrox, being bullied by the Gers' front line as they pulled him apart like a slow cooked beef joint.

Today was a more physical test, but the Japanese utility man was once again not up to scratch. He was bullied twice by the winger in the opening minutes, and he was lucky to get away with it.

He's obviously no Cameron Carter-Vickers - it would be a steal for Celtic to have found him if so. But he might not be cut out for the gruelling centre-back role Ange has plunged him into.

VAR at it again

Both of Celtic's goals were under the VAR review, and whilst they were fair goals, it brings up the argument of whether the video review is worth the hassle.

Oh's goal was given considerable consideration, and Callum McGregor being fouled in the box was checked by those behind the screen.

However, it was Jake Doyle-Hayes' red card that will take the headlines. The match officials sent him off for a straight red before it was overturned. That one will surely be up for debate.

Maeda Madness

Subbed on. Huge hand in the second. Two yellow cards. A sending off. Daizen Maeda's day was quite mental.

In a second half that sprung to life, Daizen Maeda was sent off for a second yellow card just after the hour mark.

It was, in fairness, an overly aggressive game for the usually level-headed winger. He picked up a yellow on the stroke of half time and, having fouled again before the interval, the signs were there.

However, his talents on the pitch were good for the short time he was on - including a great pass to McGregor to help set-up the first goal.
