Hibs 1 Rangers 4 as Lee Johnson unbeaten run ends and hoodoo continues - 3 things we learned

Hibs' unbeaten run is over at the hands of a Rangers side who issued a deft response to going behind at Easter Road.

Lee Johnson's men came in to Wednesday's clash at Easter Road full of confidence after successive league wins and seven games without defeat as they aimed to close the gap on Hearts and found Leith in rapture when Connor Goldson's own goal went in. But Michael Beale's men sought revenge and found their strength with goals from James Tavernier from the spot and a double for Antonio Colak topped off with Fashion Sakala getting in on the act.

Next up for the Hibees comes a tough test against Celtic on a night to forget in the capital.

Purple patch over and hoodoo remains

Hibs' purple patch under Lee Johnson in recent weeks came to an end at the hands of Rangers.

The challenge was laid bare by the Hibees boss before the game as the Leith outfit had not won at Easter Road in the league against the Ibrox side since 2006. A real hoodoo.

And while the home side went ahead, Michael Beale's men were able to show their strength in response as they have done on more than a few occasions.

But Hibs may not have the ideal conditions to bounce back in their next league clash - away to Celtic.

Highs and lows for Marshall

David Marshall has been a hero in many Scotland football fans eyes before and he experienced an up and down night against Rangers.

A top save to deny Borna Barisic in the first half caught the eye as Rangers pressed to quell the Hibees. He was also quick to deny Colak from making it three but his clearance did lead to Sakala's finish.

And with Craig Gordon crocked, and Zander Clark taking a knock against Celtic, perhaps Steve Clarke might be watching closely again despite Marshall shipping a few goals.

Leaking goals a worry?

Hibs started so well but fell off the wagon but Lee Johnson may still harbour concern over goals lost.

They have lost 43 in all this season, a bigger number of that of Motherwell and Ross County who sit in the bottom half of the table.

When Rangers turned it on, two became three and then four, and at home, Johnson may consider this a red herring due to recent form.

Nevertheless the Hibees will want to tidy up and avoid another hammering against Celtic.
