Hibernian owner Ron Gordon will not speak to Derek McInnes about Easter Road vacancy

Hibernian owner Ron Gordon will not speak to Derek McInnes about Easter Road vacancy

HIBERNIAN will begin interviewing for the vacant manager’s role this week - but will not be speaking to Derek McInnes.

Former Aberdeen boss McInnes became the bookmakers’ favourite last Friday after leading Kilmarnock back to the Premiership.

But it is thought that the Leith side have made no approach to the 50-year-old, while McInnes has also not shown any interest in the post.

Hibs owner Ron Gordon flew over from his US base at the weekend to take part in the interview process, with Ross County manager Malky Mackay and ex-Lincoln City boss Michael Appleton among those linked with the position.

Hibs travel to Dundee this evening in their penultimate Premiership clash and interim manager David Gray insists he understands the supporters’ frustrations as the season draws to a disappointing close.

There were thousands of empty seats at Easter Road on Saturday as Hibs fought out a 1-1 draw with Aberdeen in a manginess bottom six clash.

Gray said: "I understand their frustration, and a lot of that is down to a variety of different reasons but the most important thing is that results haven't been good enough and where we found ourselves in the table isn't acceptable.

"No one is shying away from that - players, staff. It's a collective and I think that's the message. It's not as if we're okay with it, because we're not.

"The game at the weekend thought the reaction from the fans to going a goal down was really good; they really drove us back on and towards the end of the game played a big part in us getting back into it.

"We definitely need them and I'm sure they'll be there for the next two games as well."
