Hi-vis burglars abandoned smashed-up van in historic village after forcing their way into house

A pair of hi-vis wearing burglars abandoned their smashed up van after breaking into a house.

Police were called to Menlove Avenue in Mossley Hill at around 2.55pm on Friday after to reports that two men had broke into a house .

It is believed that the thieves got into the home through a back door, before stealing from the properties and damaging a front window.

They were then seen leaving the house carrying two large bags, before driving away in a white Fiat Scudo van.

A short time later, the van, that had its windows smashed, was abandoned by the men on High Street in Woolton , before they ran from the scene after taking items from the back of the van.

Police officers found a number of stolen things in the back of the van, including jewellery, purses and a camera.

Detective Inspector Jennie Beck said: “We believe this van was driven erratically following the incident, and had smashed windows, so would have been very distinctive to any passers-by and motorists.

“If you saw anything suspicious or were driving in the area between 2.55pm-3.20pm and might have dashcam footage, please contact us as you could have vital evidence that may help us bring those responsible to justice.”

The burglars were described as one man who is white, 5ft 6in tall, with a shaved head and large build.

"The second man was white, around 5ft 10in tall and of slim build.

Both were wearing hivis vests at the time, according to police.
