Hezbollah condemned on Friday London's decision to list it as a terrorist organization, saying in a statement that the Lebanese party was a "resistance movement against Israeli occupation."
The British move showed "servile obedience" to the United States, it said.
"No country in the world that embraces terrorism, funds and supports it has the right to accuse Hezbollah or any other resistance movement of being terrorist," the Iran-backed party said.
The statement also described the move as an "insult to the feelings, sympathies and will of the Lebanese people that consider Hezbollah a major political and popular force and granted it large representation in parliament and in the new government.”
The British ban means anyone who is a member of Hezbollah or invites support will be committing a criminal offense with a potential jail sentence of up to 10 years.
