Hey Dad! sex predator denied parole again

Robert Hughes will remain in prison after parole authorities refused the TV star's release. (AAP)

Convicted child sex offender and former Hey Dad! star Robert Hughes has been denied parole for a second time, with authorities deeming he remains an unacceptable risk to the community.

The Australian actor was jailed for at least six years in 2014 after a jury found him guilty of 10 charges relating to sexual and indecent acts perpetrated on four young girls in the 1980s and 1990s.

The NSW State Parole Authority's decision on Thursday is the second time in a year Hughes' bid for freedom has been knocked back.

Having renounced his Australian citizenship, Hughes would have been immediately deported to the UK if granted parole.

The UK and NSW do not have reciprocal arrangements for parolees, so the sex predator would be free to live without any conditions or supervision from UK authorities.

The Authority again decided releasing him without supervision or conditions would fail the community safety test.

Hughes previously applied to be transferred to a UK prison where he would remain in jail until granted parole and then be supervised until his sentence expired. But he withdrew the transfer request when renouncing his Australian citizenship.

Hughes' full sentence of 10 year and nine months expires in early 2025.
