Donald Trump has done it again! It’s been more than eight years since the president’s infamous “Covfefe” tweet saw him become the laughing stock of the week (not that people weren’t already laughing at him). Now it seems Trump has one-upped himself with a new completely incoherent post to Truth Social which has people wondering if the rumors about his declining mental faculties are true.
On Sunday morning the president made a post to his X/Twitter knock-off known as Truth Social. It was one word, four letters long, and nobody knew what it meant. It simply read: “Bela.” People immediately drew comparisons to the “Covfefe” incident from way back in 2017.
What did Trump mean?
Aside from being a clear sign that Trump might be losing the plot, it’s hard to tell what this post actually means. Was he simply practicing his Italian? Maybe he was going to give us a rendition of the Italian resistance song “Bella Ciao” perhaps? Who knows. He likely didn’t intend for this post to go out the way it has, we can only assume he didn’t check what he’d written before posting it, just like the “Covfefe” incident

For those who don’t remember, back in 2017 Trump failed to re-read his own tweet before hitting post, resulting in him tweeting out to his millions of followers a statement that read, “Despite the constant negative press covfefe.” The following days saw the president mocked by many for his nonsensical post. Some tried to decipher what he had been trying to write, although nobody could say for sure, it seemed likely the word he was trying to write was “coverage.” Either way it quickly became a meme and is still remembered to this day.
Of course, unlike “Covfefe,” there’s little context to help us discern what “Bela” is supposed to mean. Most people can’t even give a decent guess at what he was trying to say here though. One individual asked “Is Bella the name of one of his victims?”
Is “Bela” the new “Covfefe?”
“Bela” has already proven to be quite popular amongst Trump’s biggest decriers. The press office for California governor, Gavin Newsom, who has been trolling the president for quite some time now, shared a screenshot of the post along with the caption “WE BROKE DONALD TRUMP.”

“Bela” has the potential to be this generation’s “Covfefe,” a political meme to be used for years to come. However, if it’s also indicative of Trump’s mental state then perhaps this isn’t as funny as we first thought.
Concerns regarding Trump’s ability to act as the leader the U.S. needs have been brought up time and time again. He seems to be behaving increasingly erratic, for example, his bizarre interview atop the White House roof earlier this month was a particularly strange moment even by his standards. This unintelligible post certainly could indicate the president is starting to crack.
Maybe Trump will come forward and clarify what he meant, but then again it’s equally possible that he won’t. He might simply leave people to speculate like they did with “Covfefe.”
