Hexham pensioner, 71, who died in crash has been named by police

A pensioner has died in hospital after a serious crash in Cumbria.

Police confirmed the 71-year-old woman died after being taken to hospital following a crash at 8.45pm on Friday, December 4.

The collision happened at the junction of Ellerthwaite Road and New Road in Windermere.

It involved a Red Citroen C3 and two pedestrians - a man and a woman from Hexham.

The woman died in hospital on Wednesday, December 16.

She has now been named by police as 71-year-old Olwyn Mary Kirkby.

The family have been informed and a family liaison officer has been appointed.

Cumbria Constabulary said: "The man is making a good recovery.

"The driver of the car was uninjured and is assisting police with enquires.

"Anyone with any information or who witnessed the collision is asked to contact PC1770 Johnson or Sgt 1929 Bainbridge of Kendal Mobile Support Group on 101 or email 101@cumbria.police.uk, quoting log 190 of December 4, 2020."
