Technology: Hewlett-Packard will create 700 skilled technology jobs in Scotland between now and 2014, according to recruitment industry magazine Recruiter. Plans have been announced to make the firm's Erskine site, near Glasgow, a hub for delivering IT services to UK clients. Ddtails of specific roles have not been announced yet but the company said it would be hiring technology support staff.
Entry-level opportunities: Graduates are being given the opportunity to work overseas while earning a postgraduate qualification, reports The Irish Times. The 18-month Graduates 4 International Growth programme will give 50 graduates the chance to complete a six-month placement with an export-led Irish firm, followed by a 12-month placement overseas. Successful participants will be awarded a postgraduate diploma in International Growth by the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School.
Transport: A new rail line linking Glasgow and Edinburgh via Airdrie and Bathgate will create 130 new jobs, according to the Press Association. Rail operators are recruiting staff including train drivers, station staff and ticket examiners ahead of the planned opening of the new route in December
Call centres: Telephone sales staff are currently being recruited for a new Leeds-based office of multimedia marketing company Infoserve. The firm will create 50 new jobs within the next six months, according to TheBusinessDesk.com. New recruits will sell a range of online marketing products, including listings on business directories and major search engines, designed to help businesses develop their online presence.
Retail: Local residents will be given priority for around 400 new jobs created by the opening of a new multimillion pound Tesco supermarket, according to the South Wales Argus. The supermarket giant is redeveloping an existing store in Newport, creating a Tesco Extra branch — meaning staff numbers will increase from 350 to 750.
Construction: Building services firm Rok is expanding its team of domestic repair specialists after signing a £40m deal with insurance giant Axa to provide emergency home repair work for its policyholders. The new contract for Axa subsidiary Inter Partner Assistance will create 50 new jobs, says the Construction Enquirer.
Retail: Sofa store CSL has announced plans to create up to 300 jobs in 15 new stores, reports the Press Association. The Wigan-based company is eyeing new locations in the Midlands and south of England as part of a planned nationwide expansion during the next five years. New sites in Stoke and Lincoln are scheduled to open before Christmas, with a third in London planned for early 2011.
