Heung-min Son issues verdict on Tottenham signing Min-hyeok Yang: 'He's not scared'

Tottenham and South Korea captain Heung-min Son has urged supporters and the media to "avoid putting pressure" on his compatriot Min-hyeok Yang, who will arrive at Spurs this week.

Spurs agreed a deal to sign Yang, 18, from Korean club Gangwon FC in July and he will be available to play for his new club from January 1.

The winger flew to London on Monday following the conclusion of the K-League 1 season and is set to begin training with Ange Postecoglou's squad once he has received international clearance and a work permit.

Son is excited by the teenager's potential but warned fans to temper their excitement about Yang, who is likely to need time to adapt to England and the Premier League.

Asked about Yang by Standard Sport, Son said: "I don't want people to get too excited. There's not any pressure [on him].

"He's a similar age to Mikey Moore. Everyone loves Mikey and when Yang is here I hope everyone loves him like Mikey. He's been fantastic in his first season in the K-League, scored 12 goals and a lot of assists. He's bright. He's not scared.

"He's a very bright player so I'm excited he's coming here and I'll try to help him as much as I can. But we just have to avoid putting pressure on him. The football side is the most important thing for him [to focus on]."

Yang held a press conference at Incheon International Airport before boarding a plane for London on Monday, telling reporters that he is particularly please to be working with Son.

"I am excited to be joining the club. It would be an honour to play with Son and I would be grateful for that opportunity," Yang said, according to Korea JoongAng Daily. "I have pictured myself in that situation.

"I can't wait to get there and show people what I am capable of, and have a chance to play next to him in the same match."

Yang is the youngest player to score a goal in the K League 1 and was voted the division's young player of the year this season.
