Hetty Feather is a popular older children's book, which has sold over 35 million copies in the UK alone. Hetty Feather is about a girl who gets handed over to a foundling hospital where mean Matrons beat her cruelly and lock her up, they say she is cursed with her carrot coloured hair! Hetty's best feature are her blue eyes and the only people who are kind to her are sweet Polly, her best friend, an older girl, Hattie, and the kind kitchen maid, Ida. In this book Hetty searches for her real mother, but will she find her?
Personally, I think this book should be rated 5 stars because it's a powerful book where these stories are meant to be her memoirs. I would recommend this book to 8+ readers as it can get a little scary near the end. Other than that it's a fantastic book!
If I was Hetty's friend then I would watch out for her, try to stop her starting a tantrum and so on. It's a really interesting book and it's like Hetty is talking to you. I think the Foundling Hospital is very harsh and very horrible.
These books are by the fantastic author named Jacqueline Wilson, I have always wanted to meet her. Hetty Feather has two other books that follow on from it. These two books are called Sapphire Battersea and Emerald Star.
