New York-based Hess Corporation (HES) is an exploration and production company. Valued at a market cap of $46.7 billion, the company explores, develops, produces, purchases, transports, and sells crude oil, natural gas liquids, and natural gas. It is expected to announce its fiscal Q2 earnings for 2025 on Wednesday, Jul. 30.
Ahead of this event, analysts expect this energy company to report a profit of $1.28 per share, down 51.2% from $2.62 per share in the year-ago quarter. The company has a solid trajectory of consistently beating Wall Street’s earnings estimates in each of the last four quarters. In Q1, HES’ EPS of $1.81 outpaced the forecasted figure by 2.3%.
For fiscal 2025, analysts expect HES to report a profit of $5.88 per share, down 39.3% from $9.68 per share in fiscal 2024. Nonetheless, its EPS is expected to grow 20.8% year-over-year to $7.10 in fiscal 2026.

Shares of HES have lagged behind the S&P 500 Index's ($SPX) 12.3% return over the past 52 weeks, with its shares up 3.5% during this period. Nonetheless, it has outpaced the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund’s (XLE) marginal decline over the same time frame.

On Apr. 30, shares of HES plunged 2.6% after its Q1 earnings release, despite delivering a better-than-expected performance. Both its revenue of $2.9 billion and adjusted EPS of $1.81 topped the consensus estimates. However, compared to the year-ago quarter, its revenue declined 12.1%, while its bottom-line figure fell 42.7%. Lower realized oil selling prices and a decline in sales volumes acted as headwinds in the quarter. These notable year-over-year declines might have dampened investor confidence.
Wall Street analysts are moderately optimistic about HES’ stock, with a "Moderate Buy" rating overall. Among 15 analysts covering the stock, six recommend "Strong Buy," and nine suggest "Hold.” The mean price target for HES is $159.75, which indicates a 5.9% potential upside from the current levels.
