Hertha Berlin claim Liverpool have made decision on Marko Grujic

Liverpool's on-loan midfielder Marko Grujic is a player that Hertha Berlin 'will always think about' according to the Bundesliga outfit's sporting director.

Michael Preetz has confirmed that the German side are still keen on keeping the Serbian, who has impressed in his two years in the capital, but admits that he will go back to Merseyside this summer.

Preetz told Kicker : "Of course, we are in talks with Liverpool. Last summer, a door opened. Jürgen Klopp signalled to me that they were ready to loan Marko for another year.

"Now they want him back and he should complete the [pre-season] preparation there. I cannot say today what will happen. But Marko is a player we will always think about here at Hertha."

Grujic was considered to be one of those players that Liverpool might consider selling for the right price this summer, along with someone like Xherdan Shaqiri, who it had been thought could be allowed to leave for around £28 million earlier in the year.

However, since then, the coronavirus outbreak has changed the landscape of football finances and the Reds are unlikely to be able to attract the fees that they once would have been able to.

Atletico Madrid were linked with a £35 million swoop for Grujic back in April 2019 but talk of a transfer for that amount of money has since cooled.

Grujic was Jurgen Klopp's first signing as Reds boss but now 24, he has reached a crossroads in his career and has a big decision to make when the transfer window opens.
