Hertha Berlin chief makes claim over permanent transfer for Arsenal's Matteo Guendouzi

Hertha Berlin's sporting director Michael Preetz has remained coy over the possibility of signing Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi on a permanent basis.

The Frenchman is on a season-long loan deal with the Bundesliga club from the Gunners and has already made a strong impression.

Despite playing just two games, Preetz admits he has been happy with the former Lorient player's contribution and noted how he has 'enriched' the club's style of play.

Speaking in German outlet Kicker, Preetz said: "Three months ago, Matteo's loan signing wasn't possible, but it was at the beginning of October.

"We are happy that he is there and that he enriched our game from the start.

"We'll see everything else next summer.

"How the prices will develop by then and what Arsenal is planning then, nobody can say today."

Guendouzi played more than 80 games for Arsenal having been brought to north London in the summer of 2018.

He fell out of favour under Mikel Arteta towards the end of last season, however, and has just 18 months left on his deal at the Emirates Stadium.

Arteta could, therefore, be tempted to cash in on the player next summer who is clearly way down the Spaniard's plans.

When Guendouzi does return to the Gunners next summer, he will have to battle for a first-team place alongside a number of other central midfielders including Grant Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny, and Thomas Partey.

A permanent move to Hertha could be an attractive alternative though should he be given that opportunity.
