Heroin dealer fleeing police falls head first into a bramble bush

A man fled from a police stop check on the motorway but fell face first into brambles with more than £1,000 of heroin in his pockets.

Paul Morgan decided to run from the car when officer pulled over the vehicle he was travelling in as it went along the M53 in Wirral.

The 49-year-old was a front seat passenger in the car which was stopped by Junction 4, near Clatterbridge, Chester Crown Court heard.

The driver remained at the scene, but Morgan, of Ellesmere Port, ran off, but he didn't get very far, falling face first into brambles.

He then told police, on August 4, that he had some "gear" in his pocket.

Officers searched Morgan found a clear bag containing brown blocks which was later found to be 14.5g of heroin.

Following further tests it was found that heroin of this amount, worth £1,100, could have been divided into 111 individual deals.

Morgan, of Green Lane, Great Sutton, pleaded guilty to Class A drug dealing and was sentenced to six years in jail.

Detective Constable Roy Wellings, of Cheshire Police, said: “This is an excellent result and I hope that this will stop those who believe they can get away with drug dealing in our town.

“I am glad that Morgan will serve a lengthy sentence behind bars for supplying heroin to people in Ellesmere Port.

“It is of paramount importance to us to remove these drugs and those who supply them as they have a hugely detrimental impact to our communities and cause widespread misery.

“We act on all information that we receive and would ask the public to continue to do their part in helping to make Ellesmere Port a safer place to live.”

Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, David Keane, said: “This result is a great example of the ongoing work being carried out by officers to prevent these drugs hitting the streets of Ellesmere Port, sending a clear message to those that believe they can continue to flout the law that this behaviour will not be tolerated."
