Hero locals help save life of person who had heart attack on Portmarnock Beach while waiting for Dublin Fire Brigade

Quick-thinking locals helped to save a person's life on a north Dublin beach yesterday after they suffered a cardiac arrest.

Firefighters and paramedics from Kilbarrack rushed to the scene of the incident yesterday on Portmarnock Beach at around 1pm after the alarm was raised.

But while waiting for DFB, it is understood that passers-by performed compressions on the person involved until help arrived.

The crew arrived immediately after and performed a successful resuscitation at the scene while being joined by the Irish Coast Guard and National Ambulance Service.

A spokesperson for the Dublin Fire Brigade said: “Firefighter and paramedics from Kilbarrack teamed with @IrishCoastGuard and NAS today to respond to a cardiac arrest on the beach in Portmarnock. There was a successful resuscitation on scene.

“This is why we ask that emergency access to beaches and amenities are maintained at all times.”
