Heroic kids to help swimmers get from Holyhead to Dublin in mammoth trip for The Gavin Glynn Foundation

Six heroic swimmers are to take on a mammoth swim from Holyhead to Dublin in a bid to raise funds for the Gavin Glynn Foundation.

The huge 100km+ trek will be taken on in aid of the charity who are looking to raise much needed funds to help children with cancer travel for treatment.

The gruelling task isn't all that bad though, as six kids from the foundation are helping the swimmers prepare for their journey.

Youngsters Mikey, Erin, Erika, Odrhan, Jaxon, and Gary will all be part of the team bidding for a Guinness World Record.

The swim, which will have to be completed in 35 hours in order to claim the record, will work in relays with each person going in for an hour at a time before they swap over.

The brave souls will take to the waters on sometime between 19 and 26 September depending on the weather.

To make things a little harder, the athletes aren't allowed to touch the boat while in or the team will be disqualified from the record attempt.

On top of this, they'll only be allowed wear togs as wetsuits are banned.

The Irish Long Distance Swimming Association will be observing their progress and it will all be documented by the Marathon Swimmers Federation.

A TV crew will also be on board alongside to make a show about the journey.

The foundation, which currently doesn't receive government funding, believes that all children with cancer deserve the best care, wherever in the world that might be.

So far they've helped 82 families needing travel for treatment.
