Heroic dog signals rescuers to injured owner who fell off 70ft ridge

A heroic dog is being praised for leading a rescue team to his injured owner who fell off a dangerous 70ft ridge.

The border collie named Saul has been called a real-life 'Lassie' by the Nevada County Sheriff's Search & Rescue (NCSSAR) team after his life-saving efforts.

On Wednesday, Saul and his 53-year-old male owner were camping in Tahoe National Forest, California, US, when the man took a fatal fall.

He broke his hip and multiple ribs on the way down the 70ft ridge, and left Saul worried at the top.

A fire rescue team received the initial call about the injured camper and reached out to NCSSAR for aid.

Twenty-five NCSSAR volunteers ventured into the forest to find the wounded dog owner, and managed to locate him on their first day of search.

Though they say the mission wouldn't have been possible without good boy Saul.

A Facebook post shared by NCSSAR read: "True credit goes to the subject's k9 Border Collie that ran through the forest approximately 200 yards and in true 'Lassie' fashion to flag down two searchers and led them back to the subject."

Once Saul led the rescuers to his injured owner, they carefully transported him to a landing zone approximately half a mile away, after which an air ambulance took him to a hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, Saul was treated to a "well-deserved dinner" and spent the night at a local animal shelter before being reunited with his sidekick.

Earlier this month, an adorable puppy was reunited with her owner for cuddles after falling down a deep and dark well at night.

The white and black pup named Frank went missing and was nowhere to be found.

Then a local resident heard a crying dog in Heath Common, Wakefield, and called emergency services for aid.

The West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue crew found Frank trapped at the bottom of a 10ft well.

She was pulled to safety by a firefighter who was lowered down on a rope, and thankfully survived unharmed - though a little shaken up.
