Heroes of Olympus: Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan - review

Gaia, goddess of the earth, and her sons the giants can only be defeated if the Greek and Roman demi-gods work together to defeat her. So Hera, wife of Zeus, hatches a plan which involves the Roman and Greek leaders of the demi-god training camps, Jason and Percy, losing their memories so that they can swap places.

Percy's task is to free Thanatos, the god who stops the dead returning to the land of the living, from the clutches of a giant. With Thanatos imprisoned there is nothing to stop the dead returning, and Percy faces undead (and unkillable) monsters in his quest to get to Thanatos.

What was different about this book is that it wasn't all about Percy. Hazel and Frank (Roman demi-gods) are Percy's companions on his quest and lots of the book is about them. I thought the plot of this book was really like the last one in the series, but otherwise I enjoyed this book (and I've enjoyed the rest of the Heroes of Olympus series). I like the fact that the quest seems almost impossible and yet they always pull it off in the end and manage to make jokes as they do it.
