Heroes help gardai catch knife armed thieves who robbed two shops in Dublin

An off-duty garda and members of the public became instant heroes when they helped catch two separate knife armed men in Dublin on Friday.

The first male raider entered a shop on Lower Rathmines Road shortly before 4pm on Friday armed with a knife.

He demanded cash but left the shop without anything before running towards Grove Park.

The staff workers alerted the gardai immediately who managed to catch the suspected thief with the help of the public.

He was arrested a short time later and taken to Terenure Garda Station and is expected to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice at 10.30am this morning.

In a second separate incident, another knife armed thief burst into a pharmacy on Johnstown Road, Cabinteely.

The raider left the store with a number of medical products but was successfully pursued by an off-duty member of the gardai.

He was arrested and will also appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice at 10.30am this morning.
