Workers on an Edinburgh building site battled to save their co-worker before his tragic sudden death, it has been revealed.
The 60-year-old man became seriously unwell while working on the CALA Homes Boroughmuir development earlier today.
Police and an ambulance crew were called to the scene at the Old Boroughmuir High School at around 9:15am on Thursday morning.
But the man, who it has now been confirmed was a worker at the site, tragically passed away.
It has now emerged that his colleagues battled to keep him alive while they desperately waited for paramedics to arrive.
His co-workers have been praised for jumping into action and taking on the role of 'first responders' and delivering first aid.
CALA has issued a statement sending their condolences to the man's family and loved ones.
The site has been shut down while his co-workers are being offered support.
A spokesperson for CALA Homes (East), said:
“It is with the deepest sadness that we can confirm that a member of our subcontractor team has passed away, having taken ill at our Boroughmuir development.
“ Our colleagues acted as first responders and administered first aid until paramedics arrived. The site has been closed and we are offering support to our team and contractors.
“Our subcontractor partners are part of our team at CALA, and our thoughts and sincerest sympathies are with the individual’s family and loved ones.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called to Viewforth, Edinburgh around 9.15am on Thursday 5 August to reports of the sudden death of a 60-year-old man at a building site."
