Hero Scots cop helps to deliver baby at the roadside after mum goes into labour

A young police officer has been praised after helping a mum deliver her baby in a car at the side of the road.

PC Lauren McMinn, 28, was driving in her patrol car on Cathcart Road in the city's south side with a colleague when they were flagged down by Graham McInnes. A very distressed Graham, 31, explained that his partner Lisa MacDonald had gone into labour.

With an ambulance on the way but no time to get Lisa, 32, to hospital, PC McMinn began helping the mum to deliver little Arlo McInnes, who arrived safely into the world as the ambulance arrived. Mum and baby were then taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Since then, the officer has been reunited with Lisa, Arlo and Graham, along with their 11-year-old daughter Khloe, to celebrate a unique and unbreakable bond. PC McMinn said it was "the most surreal moment of my life".

She added: "I never would have imagined that during a routine shift, I would end up delivering a baby. I remember whilst being in the foot well of the car, introducing myself to Lisa and telling her that I had never done anything like this before.

"We had a little laugh and I just remember trying to keep her as calm as possible - she was absolutely amazing and we were both so relieved to hear the sound of the ambulance sirens a short time later. I was able to confirm time of birth to Graham and Lisa as I had shouted this over my airwave."

Lisa said: “Arlo certainly picked his moment to enter this world and I am so thankful for the help of the officers and paramedics who assisted but especially to Lauren who undoubtedly saved the day and delivered our beautiful baby boy."

After the story was posted on Police Scotland's social media, Scots came out to praise PC McMinn for her rapid thinking and decisive action. One commenter said: "Well done, real heroes!"

Another added: "Well done PC McMinn. Champion."
