Hero Santry cyclist saves young girl after duo allegedly attack her on lonely walk home from work

A hero Dublin cyclist came to the rescue of a young girl who was allegedly attacked from behind as she walked home from work.

The mystery Santry lifesaver happened to stumble across the late night Sunday assault as they cycled through the northside area.

It is alleged that two women in their 30s launched the attack on the youngster after she was unable to give them cigarettes.

The victim's relative said that Gardai are looking for witnesses come forward.

She said: "People please be careful - a young relative was just finished work on Sunday night and she went to the bus stop on Santry lane at the post office where she was assaulted.

"Two women in their 30s had come from the park and asked her for a smoke. When she said she had none, they attacked her.

"She was lucky a cyclist passing by stopped to help her. We are looking for any information if anyone witnessed it."

Speaking about the victim's condition, her relative said that she was "okay but a bit shook up".

Locals replying to the incident said they have noticed the area is getting more dangerous in recent weeks.

One said: "Santry Lane is getting worse I know when I'm stopped at the lights I've the doors locked from the inside."

Another added: "The park seems to be attracting a lot of less than pleasant people recently."
