Hero police dog breaks up 'bladed weapon fight' between two men on Scots street

A hero police dog has been hailed after he broke up a "bladed weapon fight" between two men on a Scots street.

Officers were responding to an incident on Mason Street in Motherwell on Sunday, August 14, when Obi came to the rescue. The Belgian Malinois, along with his handler PC Mutter, had just come off a call when they received a report of two men "fighting with bladed weapons".

The police officer, who was first on the scene, shouted out a warning - but the men allegedly continued to fight, despite both being injured. Obi then sparked into action as one of the men immediately gave up and lay on the ground.

The other man, quickly realising that PD Obi would be hot on his heels before long, also lay on the ground. The pooch then stood guard while his handler took the men into custody.

Two men aged 26 and 32 have been charged with serious assault and officers have praised Obi for his involvement in the arrests.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Obi stopped them from further injuring each other and possibly hurting anyone who intervened.

"Two men aged 26 and 32 arrested and charged with serious assault. Chalk up another success for police dog Obi and his handler!"
