Have-a-go heroes, including members of the public and an off-duty garda, helped catch two separate knifemen yesterday.
A man entered a shop on Lower Rathmines Road in Rathmines, south Dublin at 3.45pm on Friday, December 20 armed with a knife.
He demanded cash but left the shop without getting anything, before running towards nearby Grove Park.
Staff alerted gardai, who managed to catch the would-be thief with the help of members of the public.
A 23-year-old man was arrested a short time later in connection with the investigation and taken to Terenure Garda Station.
He is expected to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice at 10.30am this morning.
In a second separate incident, another thief armed with a knife burst into a pharmacy on Johnstown Road in Cabinteely, Co Dublin.
The man left the store with a number of medical products, but was pursued by an off-duty garda.
A 43-year-old man was arrested a short time later in connection with the incident.
He is set to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice at 10.30am this morning.
