'Hero' man has fireman's jaw dropping as he rushes into road to clear traffic for them

A man has been hailed as a "hero" after he rushed into a road to help a trapped fire engine navigate a traffic jam. The brave member of the public came to the rescue of the emergency service vehicle, to the amazement of firefighters, with one stunned team member saying he had never seen a gesture like it during his 14 years of service.

The quick-thinking man, who was himself sat in the queue, jumped out of his lorry, before directing other drivers to allow the fire engine to pass safely. And thanks to his efforts, the firefighters were soon on their way again, as captured in a video of the "fantastic" moment.

Posted to TikTok by @jwdrivertrainer, the clip filmed from inside the fire truck, was shared by an emergency driver trainer.

In the beginning of the video, an instructor can be heard advising a driver, as they travel through Norwich, before they are forced to bring the vehicle to a stop before a busy junction.

However, the emergency responders did not have to wait long in the queue, thanks to the member of the public, who rushed to help them.

After climbing out of his vehicle, he can be seen ushering fellow drivers across the road, clearing a route for the fire engine.

With its sirens blaring, the engine then goes on its way, allowing the firefighters to continue their important work. "14 years of emergency service response training and I have never seen this happen before," an onscreen caption adds.

While it does not appear that the responders were attending an emergency at the time, people were nonetheless quick to praise the man as a "hero". One person commented: "What a genuinely amazing guy for stepping up.!"

"What a great bloke to help keep them moving," a second agreed. A different commenter said: "Someone give this man an award." And another thought: "Guys a hero, also respect to people for listening to him, must have saved a life."
