Hero grandad dies days after burying beloved granddaughter

A heartbroken family was hit by double tragedy after a young mum and her grandad died within weeks of each other.

Megan Creevy died suddenly after shouting for help from the doorway of her Anfield home on September 7.

The 28-year-old had dropped her son at school and returned home to do some housework before she collapsed at her front door on September 7.

Her devastated grandad, David Broley, 82, from Huyton, died on November 13 from pneumonia, just days after Megan was buried on November 1.

Megan's sister, Milly Wright, said her grandad had struggled to come to terms with Megan's death and he fell ill weeks later.

Milly told the ECHO: "We weren't expecting it at all, you wouldn't expect it. [We've lost] two family members within the space of two months.

"It's been heartbreaking, that's all I can say. Me and Meg were so close.

"She was the most loving person you could ever meet. She didn't have a bad bone in her body."

Following a medical investigation, the cause of Megan's death was listed as Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome.

Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome is when someone dies suddenly and unexpectedly from a cardiac arrest, but the cause of the cardiac arrest can’t be found.

Milly said Megan was her grandad's "best mate" and he was left heartbroken by her death.

The 82-year-old was well known in the Page Moss area and was a huge Liverpool FC fan.

Milly said: "All the family have said since Meg passed it's like he gave up hope.

"He said 'why did they have to take Megan when she still had her whole life ahead of her? Why didn't they take me?"

David's funeral will be held at Anfield Crematorium at 2pm on Friday, December 3.

A Just Giving Page has been set up in his memory, with all money raised going towards the funeral.

Milly added: "He was devastated over Meg. He wasn't eating properly. It probably played a big part.

"He was just like everyone's hero. We've lost our hero now."
