Hero garda gives CPR after Dublin Marathon runner has suspected heart attack

A hero garda helped save a runner's life after they had a suspected heart attack during the Dublin Marathon.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after a man collapsed while undertaking the mammoth run along with 20,000 others on Sunday.

An on-duty female detective rushed to the man's aid and gave CPR as backup arrived.

The Dublin Fire Brigade then rushed him to hospital where he's recovering well.

A marathon spokeswoman confirmed the incident saying the man was treated immediately and should be OK.

She said: "The Dublin Marathon can confirm that a participant took ill yesterday on course of the KBC Dublin Marathon.

"We can confirm that a Garda was present and that the runner was attended to by the medical team immediately and taken to hospital by ambulance; they are expected to make a full recovery."
