Hero ferry captain dives into the River Clyde to rescue woman who drove car into water

A hero ferry captain dived into a river to rescue a woman after she drove into the water.

The drama unfolded on the Renfrew to Yoker service across the River Clyde this afternoon.

Both the driver and her rescuer made it to the bank uninjured.

The Renfrew Ferry account tweeted: "Hi folks our apologies the ferry is off for a while we have had a major incident.

"A lady drove her car at speed into the river.

"Fortunately our skipper went in and dragged her out so no one was hurt."

The service has continued through lockdown to help get key workers to their jobs.

Ferry services are currently delayed, bosses confirmed.

"We need to get the car removed and will update asap," they added on Twitter.

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
