Hero Edinburgh nurse who had £800 bike stolen in lockdown given replacement by Halfords

An Edinburgh nurse who was left heartbroken after her bike was stolen during lockdown has been thanked for her efforts with a free replacement.

Hannah Shenton, an A&E nurse at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh discovered her bike and its lock had been stolen in the morning ahead of her 12 and a half hour shift as she was about to leave for work.

The bike, which she named Black Panther, was worth more than £800 and was her main mode of transport to her key worker job.

Hannah was left heartbroken by the theft, but after sharing her story on Facebook she was inundated with messages of support and offers to help.

But after speaking with one of her friends, Halfords has now decided to thank Hannah for her efforts throughout the pandemic by offering her a new bike of a similar model.

Hannah said: “I decided to get a new bike last year at the start of lockdown. Cycling to me is a nice way to spend a few hours outside. I also use my bike to commute, I work in the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary as a nurse and find headspace in a cycle.

“When I went to get my bike one morning to find it had been stolen, I was absolutely heartbroken. I’d become attached to the bike throughout lockdown and to find someone had taken it from my stairwell was devastating.

“I reactivated Facebook in a plea to get my bike back, and was absolutely overwhelmed by the response. Hundreds of people messaged me to help and share the post. Halfords contacted me offering to give me a new bike, after my friend Scott had messaged them explaining what had happened.

"Although bike theft is truly awful, I’m so happy and warmed by the response and all the good that has shone through.

“Thank you Halfords for bringing Black Panther 2.0 to me!”
