Hero Edinburgh mum continued to work as a nurse for a year with a brain tumour

An Edinburgh daughter is planning a touching tribute for her NHS mum who continued to work for a year with a brain tumour.

Kirsty Paterson lost her mum Finny Paterson at the beginning of the month a year after she was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

The inspiring NHS worker continued to work throughout the past year in clinical research from home.

The mum-of-three from Craigentinny never missed a Hibs moment and went to her last game last month.

The family will gather at Easter Road tomorrow for the game and are urging the crowd to clap on the 55th minute to celebrate 55 years of Frances’ incredible life.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live Kirsty said: “My mum Finny Paterson had worked in NHS Lothian since 1989.

“As a nurse and just retired in September 2021 as clinical nurse manager in the clinical research facility.

“She was diagnosed with brain tumour in August 2020.

“She continued working from home throughout her diagnosis and treatment.

“She passed away peacefully on the 6th of October surrounded by her family.

“She has been a lifelong Hibs fan and season ticket holder, she sits in the east stand. She never missed a game and was known by everyone around her.

“Her last game she attended was Hibs Vs St Mirren on the 18th of September.

“I’m going to the game tomorrow with my sister Claire, her husband Stuart, her sister Elaine, her nephew Garreth.”

The 23-year-old took to Twitter to plan the touching tribute to her mum on the 55th minute of the Hibernian Celtic Game at Easter Road tomorrow.

She wrote: “Hibees, Let's clap at 55 minutes (Hibs V Celtic) for my mum who passed away aged 55.

“14 months following the diagnosis of a brain tumour. Lifelong Hibee, season ticket holder, NHS nurse, mum, legend and more.”

The heartwarming tribute gathered over 1000 likes from social media users.

@HibernianRetro said: “Sorry for your loss!

“Let’s hope we can get an amazing applause for your amazing Mum tomorrow night!”

@StPatsday195 said: “Hopefully everyone will applaud in memory of your mum, God rest her soul. Condolences to you and your family.”

While @SilverWeb17 added: “So sorry for your loss. I really hope all will do this to celebrate the great life of your Mum.

“May every memory of her be a blessing.”

The game kicks of at 19:45 at Easter Road in Edinburgh.
