Hero doctor who saved football fan's life during match helps another ill supporter

The heroic doctor who saved a football fan’s life during a game three months ago has leapt into action and repeated the feat.

Tom Prichard got a standing ovation when he rushed from his seat to help a collapsed pensioner during Newcastle United’s Premier League home match against Spurs in October.

And on Monday he was again on hand when a fan fell ill during the second half of Blackburn Rovers’ home match against Middlesbrough in the Championship.

Tom, 34, the Teesside club’s team doctor, was joined by Boro physios Chris Moseley and Adam Reed to revive the fan, who was sitting near the dugout at Ewood Park.

Blackburn said: “Rovers wish to pay a special thanks to Middlesbrough’s medical department, who were first on the scene and who were able to restart the gentleman’s breathing, as well as Rovers’ medical staff and the crowd doctor and his team.”

Fan Trevor Bartram, understood to be in his 70s, was last night “alert and talking” at the Royal Blackburn Hospital.

He is undergoing tests. His family in a statement thanked “all concerned for their swift response”.

A spokesman for North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust in Stockton-on-Tees, where Tom is an A&E consultant, said: “We’re proud to see Tom Prichard demonstrating the best values of the NHS once again.”

Last year Dr Prichard, a Newcastle season ticket holder, was one of a team of medics who used CPR and a defibrillator to revive Alan George Smith, 80.

He said of the resuscitation: “It was a real team effort. St John Ambulance did brilliantly as it is not easy doing that with 50,000 fans looking on.”
