Hero builder steps in to help Leeds family over 'beyond shoddy' house renovation which left dad of four 'in tears'

A Leeds builder has stepped in to help a local family whose house has been left incomplete and in a mess following a stalled renovation costing more than £90,000.

Graham Nash, of Morley, is warning householders not to hand over money 'up front' to builders following numerous examples of 'cowboy' traders carrying out poor quality and incomplete work.

Graham, who owns Pinnacle Builders, had previously helped hundreds of people whose lives have been ruined by shoddy builders. In recent weeks he has been helping Adam who lives in Alwoodley, Leeds with his wife and four children. Adam is in dispute with his builder, having paid more than £90,000.

The family of six has been living in the lounge during stalled works at his property. Graham is working hard to put the house right but the family has virtually no cash left having handed most of it over already.

Graham has set up a fundraising page on Facebook in order to help put things right for the family. He does not intend to take one penny from the family himself. The page can be found here. Money raised will go towards materials and paying for a plumber and an electrician to finish work off.

He said Adam had paid £92,000 to refurbish the house but the builder "walked off site" leaving behind "£25,000 to £30,000 of work to finish off."

He described the work on the house as 'beyond shoddy' and said the roof needed extensive work to put it right.

Graham said that Adam had "broken down several times" over what he had been through.

"His family is living in the living room with four children. It is appalling."

Graham said: "Please help me rebuild their home, any donations will go a long way. We have helped over 300 people in the past two years. This one just hit my heart and I hope it does you too. Four children living in one room - it’s heartbreaking. Anyone that follows me knows I wear my heart on my sleeve and love to give back."

Graham urged homeowners not to give large sums of money 'up front' but to draw up a schedule of payments as well as a contract covering all aspects of the work. He says people should look around for a recommended builder "because 99 per cent of people won’t recommend a bad builder."

His work with house owners who have had problems with shoddy builders is due to be featured on ITV Tonight on September 22.

Graham has previously been hailed a 'local hero' for helping around 300 people who have been 'ripped off' by cowboy builders.
