Hermes courier dumps parcel in wheelie bin - only for it to be emptied three days later

A Hermes courier left a customer’s parcel in her wheelie bin only for it to get emptied into by unknowing bin men.

The woman, from Grimsby, Lincolnshire, has blasted Hermes for its ‘poor’ delivery service and claims the courier left her parcel half-way down her wheelie bin, the Grimsby Telegraph reports.

She says she didn’t realise it was there until it was too late, three days later.

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, claims that she didn’t get a note through her door to say a delivery had been made.

She says that she stumbled upon an email in her junk folder shortly after her bis had been emptied and her package was on the way to the dump.

The email said that her pack - a teeth cleaner costing around £30 - had been delivered to a ‘safe place’ and included a photo of her parcel inside her wheelie bin.

The 40-year-old said: "I had been keeping an eye out because my parcel was due.

"I did not get a card through my door and so I messaged the seller to say my parcel had not arrived."

The woman bought the teeth cleaner via a private seller on eBay because she has been unable to get to a dentist during lockdown.

She added: "It cost around £20 to £30.

"I am fortunate because I can buy another one – but not everybody would be able to."

The woman has been attempting to contact Hermes to make a complaint – but has been struggling to get through the automated system.

"I phoned the company and got an automated response," she said.

"I also tried to contact them on Twitter and have emailed their chief executive.

"I have tried other emails and numbers too - but nothing."

The woman is now demanding Hermes to stop putting people’s parcel in wheelie bins, especially with Christmas coming up.

She said: "It’s not the first time Hermes have left a parcel in my bin.

"Even if I was able to recover this parcel, I would have had to tip my bin on its side to get it out.

"It was so far down, I wouldn’t have been able to reach it."

She added: "My concern is with people ordering Christmas presents.

"Not everybody has a disposable income and can keep ordering presents just in case."

A Hermes spokesperson said: "We’ve contacted the customer to apologise and explain that extra training will be given to the courier involved.

"A refund is being processed."
