Herm Edwards praises N’Keal Harry, says he’s similar to Dez Bryant

There’s no doubt that N’Keal Harry is ready for the NFL.

Harry is the only wide receiver to be drafted in the first round by the New England Patriots in the Bill Belichick era. He is a 6-foot-2, 228 pound receiver that has a knack for high pointing footballs and making spectacular plays.

He was fortunate to be coached by a former NFL player, coach and ESPN analyst in Herm Edwards while playing at Arizona State University. Edwards played ten seasons as a cornerback and recognizes NFL talent when he see’s it.

“A very competitive player,” Edwards said on WEEI’s “Mut & Callahan. “He reminds me a lot, and I don’t like to get into comparing guys, but if you look at his height, his size and probably his speed, similar to Dez Bryant when you look at him. Same body build, the ability to go up and really fight for the football. He wins 90 percent of the contested balls. Not afraid to go over the middle. Has really good running skills when he gets the ball in his hands. You can see that on some tape.”

Dez Bryant isn’t the worst player comparison to have, especially when it’s just in regards to physical capability on the field.

“He can play inside and outside, we moved him around a little bit. He didn’t play inside a whole lot the year prior, and I kind of moved him around. I wanted to get the ball inside to get some matchups. He’s a competitor. I am talking every day. He fits the mold. Every day is a work day for him. He takes the field trying to get better. Doesn’t like losing anything. He’s built that way. He’s an emotional guy. He gets emotional at times, but I think that is just maturity. You got yourself a good football player. There’s no doubt about that.”

Harry finished his junior season with 73 receptions, 1,088 yards and nine touchdowns. While having the physical attributes and mental make up to thrive in the NFL — he also has a guy in Tom Brady that is excited to get to work with him.

He will join a receiving corps for the Patriots that features Julian Edelman, Demaryius Thomas, Phillip Dorsett, Bruce Ellington, Maurice Harris, Braxton Berrios and Damoun Patterson.
