HERITAGE APPRENTICESHIPS: More than 800 training places are to be created in UK heritage projects under a £17m National Lottery scheme, reports BBC News. A rise in lottery ticket sales has allowed the Heritage Lottery Fund to treble its investment in the Skills for the Future programme. In an attempt to preserve traditional skills, opportunities include boat-building at the National Waterways Museum in Ellsmere Port, Cheshire, hedgelaying at the Sheffield Wildlife Trust and blacksmithing alongside modern disciplines such as digital archiving.
JOURNALISM: Sports site Cricket Pulse is looking for 10 budding sports journos to contribute to its online news coverage. The successful students or graduates will intern remotely and write and edit cricket-related content in return for a "stipend" and letter of recommendation.
ENGINEERING: Following a €3.6m investment into its research and development work, Dongegal-based firm E&I Engineering Ireland will be creating 71 jobs. According to the Irish Times, the new skilled manufacturing roles will be filled during the next three years and staff will be developing the company's current range of electrical swithgear and distributions products for the building services sector.
GAMING: Train2Game — which offers qualifications in games design, development and animation — will be offering advice to aspiring game developers via a live webinar at 6.15pm on 10 June. Train2Game CEO Clive Robert will be joined by a panel of speakers including Richard Wilson, CEO of gaming trade association TIGA and Professor Carsten Maple, head of computer science and technology at the University of Bedfordshire.
RETAIL: B&Q will bring 500 jobs to Swindon when it opens a new distribution centre on the outskirts of the town, reports the Swindon Advertiser. The company is investing £77.4m in the new space, due to be up and running within the next year. Staff at nearby B&Q centres will be offered the opportunity to transfer.
HOSPITALITY: Irish hotel group Great National Hotels is taking on 50 new staff this year, reports the Irish Times. The roles will be for management staff, operations personnel and reservations agents at the group's head offices and customer contact centre in Ennis.
MECHANICS: Kwik-Fit has launched a nationwide recruitment drive and is looking for 100 new staff. Of those jobs, 40 will be created in Edinburgh, reports the Scotsman. The vehicle repair firm is holding an open day on 11 June at its Dundee Street garage in Fountainbridge.
