‘Here we go’ - Joe Biden gets the Fabrizio Romano transfer treatment

Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has a reputation for announcing big transfer deals - and Joe Biden’s impending move to the White House is no different.

On Saturday, CNN projected that Democratic nominee Mr Biden had passed the threshold of 270 electoral college votes needed for victory to become the next President of the United States, and succeed incumbent Donald Trump.

Former vice president Biden was called as the winner of Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon, meaning he had an insurmountable lead in the race for the White House.

Winning the vote in Wisconsin, Michigan and Arizona - three states which voted for Mr Trump in 2016 - opened up a number of pathways to the presidency for the democratic candidate.

And it was victory in Pennsylvania, some four days after polls closed, which saw him over the line.

But as Romano’s 2.2million Twitter followers all know, it’s not a done deal until those three words - “Here we go” - are tweeted out.

Romano’s tweet - in which he wrote: “Here we go @JoeBiden @CNN” along with a US flag emoji - quickly went viral, with over 20,000 retweets and 70,000 likes in a matter of minutes.
