'Here we go again' - Newcastle fans are understandably cynical about the latest takeover talk

Newcastle United fans are understandably cynical after fresh takeover reports emerged on Thursday evening.

Former Manchester United and Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon has returned with a fresh bid to buy Newcastle off Mike Ashley having failed with a bid earlier this year.

Kenyon has been backed by the US-based GACP  , who also own Ligue 1 side Bordeaux, and has produced a 46-page brochure detailing his plans.

The offer to buy Newcastle is said to stand at £125million up front with further payments taking the deal up to £300million.

But after Kenyon's failed bid, as well as the long drawn out takeover sagas involving Amanda Staveley and PCP Partners, and the Bin Zayed Group, Newcastle fans are no longer allowing themselves to get excited about a potential takeover deal until it is signed, sealed and over the dotted line.

Particularly after Ashley himself said back in July that any takeover of Newcastle will be finished by the time the media find out.

That's certainly the view of Kieron Young, who tweeted: "For once l believe Ashley when he says any takeover will just be announced, not played out in the media. Let's not waste our collective oxygen."

Martin Hall added: "Don't know what's more exhausting, Brexit or @NUFC takeover talk."

'Shevas' joked: "Rumours of another Newcastle takeover? Let me just add that to the list of others..."

Mohsin Khan pointed out: "Great. But how many times have we been here before? The only time the club will be sold is when it just happens without any leaks allowing it to be played out in public.

"Funny how no one has heard of GACP before. Using #NUFC is always great publicity."

However, 'the Geordie Boot Boy' has taken a slightly more optimistic stance. He said: "The interesting bit about this new takeover story is the fact that the 300M bid has actually gone in.

"We waited a whole summer for the BZG "bid" that never officially came. That's the only thing that gives me the slightest bit of hope."
