Here's why you might have seen a low-flying Virgin Atlantic plane in Glasgow today

If you've been out and about in Glasgow today, you may have seen a very low-flying plane going around the city.

Well, before you think anything has gone awry - don't worry! The flights are all part of routine tests.

The brand new plane, a Virgin Atlantic A350 is being at tested at Glasgow Airport for the entirety of this week and took off earlier today and has since landed back at the airport.

Plenty of baffled people took to social media to try and get to the bottom of the plane's seemingly bizarre behaviour, with many thinking the aircraft was aborting its landing at the airport.

With the training flights due to continue for the rest of the week, it could be a sight Glaswegians get used to.

A spokeperson for Glasgow Airport said: "We’ve absolutely loved having Virgin Atlantic’s new Airbus A350s at Glasgow Airport. The stunning aircraft have certainly been very popular with the general public, our local aviation enthusiasts and indeed staff across the airport."

Virgin Atlantic recently introduced the swanky new aircraft, called an Airbus A350-1000. It includes a 'loft' social space with a big screen TV and sofas and a very posh upper class suite, with all the seats seamlessly transitioning into a bed.

Once the training is completed in Glasgow, the plane's first commercial flight is expected to be London Heathrow to New York JFK.

But for the time being, we'll be seeing a lot more of this huge aircraft flying around Glasgow.
