Here's why there's loads of balloons tied to the Duke of Wellington statue

Folk passing by the Gallery of Modern Art have been doing a double take this morning with the Duke of Wellington sporting something other than the EU cone that appeared on his napper last week.

That's because the Duke has loads of white balloons tied around it.

And far from being the anniversary of the inauguration of the statue or indeed of the birth of the real Duke - who was one of the leading military and political figures of 19th century Britain, the answer lies with a certain lager brewed on Duke Street in the east end of Glasgow.

Tennent's are the ones behind the stunt, but are keeping the details under wraps for the time being.

What we do know is that it's all to do with a message that reads 'Let There Be Light', which appears on an image of one of the Tennent's embossed white balloons.

With, alongside that, the date of Monday, February 10 given.

So with that in mind, we hope we get the lowdown on what plans they are brewing up then.

Perhaps a new low-alcohol lager?
