At least 8,000 homes in Dublin were left without power today during a significant blackout earlier today.
The homes in Clondalkin saw the lights and power go out after a car was set alight near an electric pole in the area.
According to Powercheck.ie there were two faults caused by the vandalism which led to over 8,000 homes without power.
Dublin Fire Brigade quickly called to the scene after flames from the car spread to the pole leading to the blackout.
It even affected traffic lights across the area with the normally busy Newland's Cross junction left to function without working stop and go signs.
But thanks to the quick work of both Dublin Fire Brigade and ESB power was restored to the area within hours.
DFB said: "Firefighters from Tallaght and Dolphins Barn fire stations were called to cars alight in #Clondalkin this evening.
"Unfortunately power lines caught fire as a result, leading to an electricity black out for 3,500 homes in the area. Thanks to @ESBNetworks for the quick response."
While gardai warned: "A number of traffic lights are not working in the Clondalkin area due to a power outage. Lights at Newland's Cross, Boot Road and New Nangor Road are not operating. Please slow down and take extra care if in the area."
