It’s a major music moment for fans of “American Idol.”
The winner of the reality competition show’s 19th season was unveiled Sunday, with the smooth-singing country artist Chayce Beckham taking home the coveted honor.
Beckham emerged victorious from a trio of finalists that also included acclaimed vocalists Grace Kinstler and Willie Spence.
Pyrotechnics filled the stage and lights spelling out “CHAYCE” flashed behind Beckham after host Ryan Seacrest announced him as the season’s winner following a fan vote.
Beckham sang multiple songs during Sunday’s broadcast of the finale, including the judge’s choice, “Blackbird” by The Beatles, and “Afterglow” by Ed Sheeran.
“Congratulations twice,” judge Lionel Richie told Beckham after his “Afterglow” performance. “One, for surviving this amazing class of 2021, and secondly, welcome to your career. You’ve got an amazing future my friend.”
Fellow judge Katy Perry, meanwhile, praised Beckham for his ability to perform “a classic small but mighty song” like “Blackbird.”
Season 19 marked the fourth season that Perry, Richie and Luke Bryan have judged “American Idol” together, and the fourth season since the popular singing series moved to ABC. The first 15 seasons aired on Fox.
Notable previous winners of “American Idol” include Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Jordin Sparks.
