Here's who can apply for their Covid vaccine from today as portal is extended to over 50s

Ireland's vaccine portal has once again been extended with over 50s now able to apply for their jab.

The HSE was on Monday advised it should continue administering vaccines under the planned age sequence, oldest to youngest in descending order.

Last week saw the vaccine portal open to people aged 60-69 who are currently set to receive their vaccine throughout May.

Vaccinations for over 70s are also currently still taking place and the Department has said vaccines for both cohorts and those at very high risk would be well advanced in May.

The HSE has not recommended jumping age groups, or giving vaccines at the same time to different age groups, at this point, following the decision last week that the Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca vaccines should be given to people aged 50 and older.

The current situation is that for those aged 50-59, all four vaccines can be used. For those aged 40-49, only Pfizer and Moderna can be used.

Have your say on the easing of restrictions here or below:

As of May 4, the current vaccine portal is open for over 50s beginning with people aged 59. The portal will then open on May 5 for people aged 58 followed by 57-year-olds and so on right down to people aged 50.

Currently, the HSE is forecasting to have first dose vaccinations underway for 50-59-year-olds throughout the month of June.

People aged between 35 and 59 are also set to begin getting Covid-19 vaccinations in June while the remainder of high-risk people will continue to receive their jab.

Younger people will have to wait slightly longer as it will be July when people aged 25 to 34 will finally start receiving their first doses of the vaccine.

Currently, there is no prediction in place from the HSE as to when for when people aged 16 to 24 will be vaccinated but it will likely be July at the earliest.
