Here's where you'll be able to park when The Kingsway is finished

New short-stay parking bays will be added near The Kingsway, as well as pedestrian crossings, taxi ranks and bus stops, according to the latest proposals from Swansea Council .

The construction work on Swansea 's The Kingsway has been beset with difficulties after the original contractor pulled out of the multi-million pound regeneration project in March.

But Swansea Council is sticking to its November deadline for completion and have confirmed the final layout for the parking, crossings and speed-restricted zones.

Short-stay parking spaces on the surrounding streets will cost £2 for the maximum stay of 60 minutes.

The proposals, which can be objected to until October 18, include a number of 20mph speed limits. The Kingsway, Orchard Street and West Way will stay as 20mph zones.

Here's where you can park on The Kingsway when it is finished:

Orange - Locations of short-stay parking bays

Yellow - Residential parking permits will still be valid in these areas

Blue - Roads where 20mph zones are coming into force

The Kingsway itself won't have any free parking to "encourage a swift turnover of road users wishing to pop in and out of the city centre", according to guidance from Swansea Council.

The Kingsway has been through a serious transformation over the years:

Drivers have complained that the lanes on The Kingsway are too narrow in the current one-way set up but it will have a two-way system when it is completed - with the total width of 6 metres that's "typical of many other Swansea streets," according to a council statement.

People with disabilities will be able to park for free in short-stay parking bays and have other options for parking in streets near to The Kingsway.

Is there any free parking nearby?

You will still be able to park free of charge in the streets at the edge of the city centre on Mansel Street, Picton Lane, Craddock Street, Willows Place, Gore Terrace, Orchard Street, Richards Place, Newton Street, Grove Place and Pleasant Street.

Where will taxis be able to stop?

Taxis will have allocated bays to stop on Belle Vue Way, Plymouth Street, Oxford Street, The Kingsway and Northampton Lane.

Where will buses pick up and drop off from?

Existing bus stops will remain and additional ones will be added. They'll be on both sides of The Kingsway, Orchard Street and Christina Street.

Any objections to the plans should be submitted in writing to Civic Centre, Oystermouth Road, Swansea, SA1 3SN or email: Legal.TrafficNotices@swansea.gov.uk by October 18 using reference DVT-00243640/AR.
