SACRAMENTO, Calif. _ The East Area Rapist suspect who eluded police for decades worked at a Roseville, Calif., distribution center for Save Mart grocery stores for 27 years, the company confirmed to The Sacramento Bee late Wednesday.
DeAngelo, 72, retired last year, company spokeswoman Victoria Castro said in a text message.
He was arrested Tuesday evening, and authorities are filing or preparing to file 12 murder charges against DeAngelo in Sacramento, Orange, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.
"None of his actions in the workplace would have led us to suspect any connection to crimes being attributed to him," Castro said. "We are working with the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office on their investigation."
The distribution center is located on Nibick Drive in Roseville, near Blue Oaks Boulevard and Highway 65.
The time frame given by Save Mart suggests he started working at the center in 1990.
DeAngelo worked for the Auburn Police Department from 1976 to 1979, according to Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones. He was forced out after being charged with stealing a hammer and dog repellent from a Citrus Heights drug store, according to an Auburn Journal article.
