It’s been a rough few weeks for the Cincinnati Bengals and an old nemesis is rearing its ugly head, partly causing the rough stretch.
The offensive line for Cincinnati hasn’t been top notch in recent years and it’s happening again here in 2021 through the first half of the season.
Going into Week 10, the Bengals check in at No. 20 on Pro Football Focus’ latest offensive line rankings, holding steady from last week.
Sometimes, you have to have faith in the greater sample size and be convinced that a player will pull his way out of a bad run of play. Quinton Spain earned a 56.7 overall PFF grade last year coming off a bad season in Buffalo in 2019 (55.8). But before that, he had three consecutive years of much better play to his name. He has bounced back in 2021 to the tune of a 75.0 overall grade. Spain has allowed just one sack and 10 total pressures and is the best-graded lineman on the team. Paired with Jonah Williams, the Bengals have a very solid left side of the line.
The highest-graded offensive lineman to this point is guard Quinton Spain, at 75.0.
Tied for the lowest grade with a 43.5 are center Trey Hopkins and recently benched rookie Jackson Carman, who has been replaced by Hakeem Adeniji.
Needless to say, things need to improve up front if the Bengals are going to steal a playoff spot this season. Joe Burrow can only do so much.
