Here's what the weather forecast is for Boxing Day and the next few days

Boxing Day is going to continue to be wet and windy, with strong winds and heavy downpours at times.

It's bad news for leisure walkers who want to get a blast of fresh air following the excesses of Christmas Day.

The Met Office said rain will persist for much of the day, with the odd dry spell, too. Temperatures are on the cool side with a maximum of 7C.

It should remain dry for the rest of the day in Greater Manchester, with the chance of rain between 5 per cent and 10 per cent.

The Met Office tweeted: "There's some heavy rain across parts of the south at the moment. Take care if you're out on the roads."

Tonight, rain will continue to "persist through the start of the evening, before becoming drier," the Met Office, said. The odd clear spell will develop before "further light rain will arrive through the early hours."

Temperatures overnight will remain above freezing at around 2C.

For Friday, rain in the morning will "slowly clear" leaving many areas with a dry afternoon and it should be sunny from late morning into the afternoon in Greater Manchester. But light rain will linger in Cumbria, for those venturing further afield.

It will feel milder, with maximum temperatures of 10C.

The outlook for the rest of the week is a dry Saturday to begin with with sunny spells and risk of a shower later. But there will be more rain on Monday, which is expected to be heavy at times.

The weather will continue to be "breezy throughout", the Met Office forecasts.
