Canberra's waking up! Here's what's reopening

Everyone is tired of being locked down. While still mindful of the need to be COVID-safe, many of us are missing movies, concerts, theatre and other activities and places that tickle the eyes, ears, heart and soul.

Here's a list of cinemas, theatres, galleries and national institutions and where possible, when they are planning to reopen after COVID-19 restrictions are eased.

Please note that dates and other details are subject to change depending on the venues and government mandates.

Cinemas

Dendy Canberra: October 29 (dendy.com.au).

Limelight Tuggeranong: October 29 (limelightcinemas.com.au).

Palace Electric: October 29 (palacecinemas.com.au).

Hoyts Belconnen and Woden: Uncertain (hoyts.com.au).

Theatres

Canberra Theatre Centre: The box office will open on November 1 and the first show after lockdown will be The Wharf Revue from November 8 (canberratheatrecentre.com.au).

The Street Theatre: opening sometime in December. Scheduled shows are the music acts Kopasetic (December 4), Daniel Champagne (December 10) and Kim Yang (December 17) and the comedy act Randy Feltface (December 16). thestreet.org.au.

Galleries

Beaver Galleries: October 15, by appointment only. New exhibitions are by Graeme Drendel and Denese Oates (beavergalleries.com.au).

Canberra Museum and Gallery: October 29 (cmag.com.au).

Craft ACT: October 29 - Design Canberra presents Nurture (craftact.org.au).

M16 Artspace: October 29-31 long weekend show - Black and White Edges; regular opening November 5 (m16artspace.com.au).

Nancy Sever Gallery: October 29 (nancysevergallery.com.au).

National Gallery of Australia: October 29 (nga.gov.au).

National Portrait Gallery: October 29 (portrait.gov.au).

Tuggeranong Arts Centre: Live Fresh Funk classes begin on October 19; exhibitions by Rory Gillen and Alexa Malison open on November 6 (tuggeranongarts.com).

Other

Australian War Memorial: There are plans for a small Remembrance Day service on November 11 and for the memorial to reopen on November 17 (awm.gov.au).

Museum of Australian Democracy: October 29 (moadoph.gov.au).

National Museum of Australia: October 29 (nma.gov.au).

Parliament House: No date confirmed (aph.gov.au).

CSO: The Canberra Symphony Orchestra hopes to put on its CSO Summer Proms concert on the lawns of Government House on December 4 at 6pm. cso.org.au.
