An expensive state like Hawaii, however, has a much higher median household income level than America in general. That means that the minimum salary required to be upper class in Hawaii is far higher than the national average.
According to USAFacts, the estimated median household income in the Aloha State is $100,700. A Hawaii citizen would require a minimum salary of at least $201,400 to achieve upper-class wealth in what is one of America’s most expensive states.
While the path to wealth looks different for everyone, where you live really determines where your dollar and fortune will stretch. A salary of over $200,000 would lead to a very different lifestyle in states like Tennessee, Arizona or Michigan.
